Have you ever heard about distressed furniture? It’s furniture that using distressed look as the general look of the furniture. Distressed or weathered look is one of the decorative arts that using unique technique to make the object, or in this case is furniture, looks older or aged. It’s a great technique to make antique look on the furniture that were using distressing technique. In this article, we’ll talk about five simple steps to make antique look using distressing technique

Distressed Furniture: Beginning Steps

The first step to get distressed furniture is aging the wood. You can start with hitting the edges of the legs or seats using hammer. You need to soften the edges and corners of the furniture. In this way, you can get the look of the furniture that has been moved many times even though in fact it’s a new one. The second step is adding the first coat of paint. You can get two contrast paints in the same range color and apply them on the furniture’s surface so it’ll look like the furniture has been painted over and over. You need to remember to playing with the color, not the paint. You can just apply one time of painting using contrast color.

Distressed Furniture: Continuing Steps

The third step of making distressed furniture is adding the second coat of paint. In this step, you’ll use the real color that you want for the furniture. You can apply the color once the first coat has been completely dried. You can paint the furniture one time also, just like the first coat. Since the look that we want is antique look, it’s better to use kind of dark or dull color rather than the bright one. The second one is making the effect of distressing look. You need to use certain tool to scratch the surface and then rub the surface using fine sandpaper. This step will give the real old furniture effect because of the scratch. You need to remember not to have unwanted scratch like big stretch or something like that.

The last step of making distressed furniture is the finishing. The finishing process is wiping the whole furniture with towel and then places it in the certain room that you want. Don’t forget to decorate it with things like cushions if the furniture is bench or napkins for the dining table. These steps are easy to follow, right?
